The 48 Hour Film Project

The Brisbane 48 Hour Film Project

What Happened During Your Weekend?

The Brisbane filmmakers share stories from their wild weekend of filmmaking. (Blogging ended shortly after the filmmaking weekend.)

What a weekend!

We had an awesome time making our film, and it was a huge learning experience for everyone.

This was our first attempt to make a short film and it was pretty full on. In fact some of the team only met for the first time last week.

My key learning experiences were:

- Don't go to work on Friday! Or at least take the afternoon off :-)
- Don't try to write the whole thing on Friday night, do it in iterations while actors rehearse bits to see what works and what doesn't.
- Keep an eye on continuity, there's no time to re-shoot once you get to the edit, you just have to work around it.
- Keep all your locations very close.
- Be aggressive in the edit. Getting something OK in the minimum run time is better than delivering 7 minutes that are rubbish.
- Music adds a lot of character!
- Drink lots of water (oooops!)

Looking forward to doing this again next year! The crew are already thinking about our next film to do in a few months.

Hopefully this competition has kick-started us into producing some really good movies in the future.
