The 48 Hour Music Video Project
Spotlight On: Cairo Fred
Best Male Performer, DC 48MVP 2011
Desson Speaks Out
My band Cairo Fred and I couldn't believe what a great opportunity that the 48 Hour Music Video Project presented to us. We had to repeat the deal several times to ourselves. Really? We would get to make our own real, pulsating, honest to goodness music video - uh - with us in it? But it was true. And before long, we found ourselves one weekend, working with the fabulous director Sam Membrino and his startlingly gifted cameraman Chris Olson, to Do Just That.
It was a truly spirited and involving experience. When all was said and edited, within the squeaky bun time frame, we found ourselves sitting at the premiere screening of all the music videos. The Almighty Father of Rock, in his infinite wisdom (or weird sense of humor) decided that we would not take the first prize for best song (we were robbed!) or best video (we were robbed again!). But He ordained us to win Best Male Performer - for me - and Honorable Mention for our video.
We also had the opportunity to perform at the awards soiree (if you'll permit a fancy word once in a while.) I mean, apart from the dour presence of Simon Cowell standing before you, what more could a working band ask for? Thank you to the 48 Hour folks, Mark, Dave and Christina!
