August 30-September 1, 2005
The first ever 48 Hour Film Project in Black Rock City was a roaring success. Three teams of filmmakers made films on the dusty playa between August 30th and September 1st, and we screened them at Automatic Subconscious to an eager audience of over 100.
The Elements
The elements that each filmmaker had to include were:
- Character: M. Whipple, Portapotty Attendant
- Prop: An Art Car
- Line of Dialogue: "Is it in yet?"
The Films
Included in the 2005 48HFP at BRC were:
- "The Blue Room Conspiracy", by Shooting without a Net (Comedy)
- "Cinderplaya", by Team Team Pen (Mystery)
- "Portaman", by Flaming Dynamos (Superhero)
Other Notes
Special thanks to Jin Joo from Cinemasports, Andie Grace from Burning Man LLC, the folks from Autosub, and all of the BRC 48HFP filmmakers for making the BRC 48HFP 2005 possible.
All 48HFP BRC filmmakers were required to register with the Burning Man organization as a member of the press, sign a Basic Use Agreement (at Media Mecca or PlayaInfo), get their video camera tagged, and ask p ermission of any participants they wish to photograph.
As filmmakers, we are members of the press and should review our rights and responsibilities on the playa.
