The Houston 48 Hour Film Project
What Happened During Your Weekend?
The Houston filmmakers share stories from their wild weekend of filmmaking. (Blogging will begin after the filmmaking weekend ends.)
48 hour film in only 13 hours!
Choyce, the director, tried to get in a blog entry, but something happened to it. So I will sum up our story here.
At hour 35 we realized we couldn't use the footage we had--and we were done shooting. So a skeleton crew of one cameraman and two actors went out and re-shot the whole thing. We were able to get it edited and put music to it in the final hours and get the film, Quality Time, turned in with 6 minutes to spare.
So now that we know we are capable of getting these things done in a very short period of time, next year we can allow some time for sleeping!

Mixed reviews
This is my second year editing a film for 48HFP and the production and pre-production went smoother than last year. I was impressed by the quality of the equipment and nothing was overlooked in the production phase. Everyone was great except 3 people. The post-production did not go as well as last year. Everything was great and we had 3 hours to spare on Sunday until we had too many cooks in the kitchen per-say. I edited all weekend and a secret cut by the cinematographer was submitted with my name on it without my approval. It's a shame when egos prevent people from doing their jobs and I am saddened by how used I felt in those last few hours. There was a conflict of interest between funding and art and unfortunately money won to the detriment of the project. un.Fortune.net

Great Experience!
This past 48 Hr Film Project was such a Great Experience!! I was lucky enough to have a Team who could work together as a "TEAM", which is rare to find! From Our Makeup Artists, costumes, and one of our Teammates who Happened to have a Collection of Crystal Balls (what were the chances?) for our Fortune Teller, Our Director,Randy Chapman, Camera Experts, Editors, and from my Prospective as Producer, my Ex Producer, Judy Garlow, as well as Kim McCaab, my Production Assistant, you couldn't have asked for a better Crew and Actors. I thank you all for your hard work, with NO SLEEP, and look forward with OPEN ARMS to next year's 48 Hour Film project and future Festivals!! I just wish I would have been smart enough to have Asked "MONSTER TO BE ONE OF OUR SPONSORS". Denise Boucher, Producer, Team-Houston Film Meetup Unfortunate.Net"

Thank you RED BULL !!!
Our production assistant, Elyse Freeman, was able to get Red Bull to sponsor two cases of Red Bull Energy Drink. I woke up on Friday morning at 7:30AM. I went to sleep on Sunday night at 10:00PM. Almost 63 hours without any sleep. I owe it to a dedicated team, lots of caffeine and RED BULL!

13 hours or BUST
So on Friday, Jon Hobson (Producer/DP) had come up with a much better story idea than we previously planned out. \\

So many people to kill. Not enough time in which to kill them #48HFP
If you follow me on either twitter or facebook you might've noticed I was rather busy this past weekend, spouting off little one liner nuggets like the title of this blog entry. (Apologies to those poor bastards that follow me on both.)

Great!
When Denise called me to participate on the creative team, I was ready to go. I am a natural when it comes to creative works.
Not only did Denise choose my group's idea but she chose both of our ideas-merged them together.
I am ready for the next film project-I am ready to kick...

Houston We Have a Problem
Swigert: 'Okay, Houston, we've had a problem here.'
Duke: 'This is Houston. Say again please.'
Lovell: 'Houston, we've had a problem. We've had a main B bus undervolt.'
I really don't know what a main B bus undervolt is, but now a sure do know the meaning of the phrase "Houston we have a problem". Writing, Shooting, and Cutting a short in 48 hours is insane. With less that 8 hours of sleep in 3 days I almost had to resort to tooth picks holding open my eyes. Luckily we have a great team and we made the deadline with 2 minutes to spare. I learn some great lessons and took a big step in becoming a team player. See ya in 363 days Houston
