The Jacksonville 48 Hour Film Project
What Happened During Your Weekend?
The Jacksonville filmmakers share stories from their wild weekend of filmmaking. (Blogging ended shortly after the filmmaking weekend.)
Maiden Voyage
From viewing other films, it is clear that, creativity and passion for the art form, were abundant. Even high anxiety and low budgets didn't dilute the pure joy of making the films.
Being involved in such a positive experience was a blessing. We all brought something to the party and we all had a real good time.

Got music?
Getting great music for out film, "T.U.D.O.C." was possibly the greatest challenge that our team faced this year. Luckily, however, we discovered incompetech.com! This site offers hundreds of fantastic songs for every genre of film! And the best part is that it is ABSOLUTELY FREE! There is, if you are so inclined, the option of sending in a donation, which I personally recommend! The artist's name is Kevin MacLeod, and all he asks is that he is represented in the projects credits, and he has a specific format for that found at http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/faq.html. He even has everything you need to use his music legally, as far as rights of use. Please make use of this sight, and make donations so that Mr. MacLeod will continue to do what he does so well!

Rushed to the Hospital just hours before....
This was my first year participating in the 48HFP and I was so excited to the point of passing out 8 hours before kick-off. I was rushed to the Emergency room around 10:00 and the doctors did all of these test on me and could find anything wrong. I sat there the whole time watching the clock wishing and hoping that they would release me be for the 6:00 kick-off time. I was so determined that I told my team leader if they keep me here just give me the genre and the elements and I will write in my hospital bed. I was not going to let this exciting opportunity pass me by only to have to wait another year. I Thank God every thing turn out ok I was released at 4:30 and made it to the Kick-off. My adrenaline is still set on high. Ready to go another round.

What a wild weekend
My team and I knew the 48 hour was going to be a long, tiring, exciting adventure but honestly I don't think any of us had any clue what we had gotten ourselves into. I have to say that I am so impressed by all the other teams films and have so much respect for teams who have done this multiple times.
We had a blast and look forward to doing it again next year!
Thanks,
Ross

Just a drop of gasoline
Wow-I look forward to the 48 Hour weekend almost like Christmas! This year was no exception. We had some new additions to the team, and I must say, they fit in quite nicely.
Our genre was noen other than ROAD MOVIE. Quite a malleable genre if you think about it. We wanted to deliver a film with a classic ROAD MOVIE feel but add a few twists and turns (no pun intended). The weekend went almost too well, and I couldn't be happier with our film and couldn't be prouder of my team. You guys made it all possible. Go CHICKEN!

Fantasy?
This is one of the greatest kept secrets in Jacksonville competitions.
This was our first Festival as a Team and it was just so much fun making Knights and Squires. We really did not want Fantasy but in the end we are pleased because it forced us to think outside the box.
We can't wait to compete again next year. We were amazed by the high quality of the films we saw and we cant wait to see how everything ends up.
Great Job Jacksonville Film Makers!

We made the big one.
Yup. We did it! I really didn't think we would be able to finish the Switchcaberoo, but we did it!
We had a lot of fun while filming the pyrotechnics. There was a total of four explosions, and they weren't cheap. The fire department was really understanding in providing assistance on such a short notice. They were real cool, and everyone stayed safe.
Then after we got done filming, we all went and got ice cream and road go-karts. Best weekend of my life.

Great Weekend
I'm happy to report that from Friday up until Sunday at midnight, I got a total of 28 minutes of sleep. The rest was spent working- working hard. It was great fun though!

One hundred on the highway!
Stagl and I thought that 7 PM was the cut off. So at 6:50 we are doing over a hundred on the highway with two other teammates as "police buffers." That movie was getting turned in hell or high water! Who else gets down town in under 10 minutes?

It's not about the size...
It's how you use it. That was so true for this year's project. My crew worked so quick and effectively, you would have thought there were 50 of us. It came together as one awesome work of art. Thanks for making it happen.

Hot weekend in Jax
Despite the extreme heat of shooting outside most of the day, the cast and crew held up well. Specially given some where in full leather with a heat index of 107 degrees!
One advice we should have taken away from the last meeting was to have a viewing monitor to really see well what we just shot. Everything looks great through 2 inch screen!

I'll sleep when I'm dead!
Man what a great weekend and it's all about the people on your team - I couldn't have had a better group of folks to work with. Can't wait for Tuesday night!

wrangling cats
Making a film with a bunch of teenagers is like wrangling a herd of cats. But I loved it and am already planning and forming a team for next year!! Great job guys!
