The 48 Hour Film Project

Uploading Your Film to 48.tv

There are two tasks involved in uploading your film to 48.tv. The first is getting the film into a file of the right format. The second is getting that file to 48.tv.

Step 1: Preparing the File

Please take the following into consideration while creating the file that you will upload to 48.tv:

  1. Your film must have been created for an official 48 Hour Film Project. However, you may upload a polished version.
  2. Please omit the bars and tone.
  3. Your film must be in one of the following formats:
    .3gp | .3g2 | .asf | .avi | .dv | .m4v | .mpg | .mpg2 | .mpeg |
    .mpeg2 | .mpeg4 | .mp4 | .qt | .wmv | .asf | .mp3 | .wav | .wma
  4. Please upload a file that is 30 frames per second. We do not support 25 fps or 24 fps (i.e., PAL or 24p) at this time. It should be straightforward to convert your file to 30 fps using Quicktime Pro, Final Cut Pro, or your video editing program.
  5. Your file must be less than 1 GB. The ideal size is between 100MB and 200MB.
  6. Our preferred size is 720x480 pixels, but other sizes should work.
  7. Our preferred codecs are MP4 or H.264.
  8. Our preferred audio rates are 44kHz or 48kHz.

Step 2: Getting the File to 48.tv

Follow these steps to upload the file that contains your film to 48.tv.

  1. If you do not already have an account on 48.tv, create one. Don't worry about the "Sign Up as a Factory Worker" question; you don't need to check that. If you don't have a zip code, just use "99999".
  2. Go to our uploading site. Log in.
  3. Leave "Upload Group Label" the same, and "Allow these clip(s) to be shared on other open networks" unchecked. Click Step 2.
  4. Click the Upload button (left of the other two buttons). Select your film.
  5. Wait for your film to upload.
  6. Click the Continue button.
  7. You may have to log in again. If you do, click Pending Clips.
  8. Fill in the requested information (the Aspect Ratio, Title, City, Year, Genre, Logline, and Keywords).
  9. After uploading, it may take a few days for your film go through our approval process.

Congratulations! You've uploaded your film to 48.tv! If you have any problems, please let us know.
