The Nashville 48 Hour Film Project
What Happened During Your Weekend?
The Nashville filmmakers share stories from their wild weekend of filmmaking. (Blogging ended shortly after the filmmaking weekend.)
MUSICAL or WESTERN!
After our draw, our esteemed runner gave me the call. He said, "You're not going to believe this." Then I knew that we had drawn the dreaded "Old Maid" of genre choices: "MUSICAL OR WESTERN." Our hearts sank. This year's wild cards were wild, so we knew that we had to take our genre, because "OPERETTA" was something that we could not afford to draw. During the week, I had been thinking about what we would do if we had to do a western. We had some country locations, but our best stuff was in town. I called the fabulous singer/songwriter/actress Leslie Mills and told her our draw. She encouraged me to keep it and do a musical, so we did. We embarked on a long journey through lots of bad ideas and finally we found a story that we could write and produce.
I am pleased with the result of our labors, and it is my hope that the audience will enjoy it as well. Praise God that we survived another 48 hour film project! After making this movie, I will never again fear the words: MUSICAL OR WESTERN!
