Genres
The year 2013 brings a lot of fun new genre changes! This year we introduce Crime/Gangster and Mistaken Identity! Goodbye Detective/Politie Film, Film de Femme, Mockumentary and Stille film - at least for this year. We're also bringing back the popular genres Buddy Film and Superhero. And it wouldn't be the 48 Hour Film Project without those three beloved words: Musical of Western!
Naast deze genres is er de optie van het "Wild Card" genre. Nadat de genres getrokken zijn, hebben filmmakers de mogelijkheid hun getrokken genre om te ruilen voor een "Wild Card" genre. "Wild Card" genres worden willekeurig aan een stad toegewezen. (See the list below.)
Op de kick-off, trekt elk team willekeurig één van onderstaande genres uit de hoge hoed:

Als jij het gelukkige team bent dat het genre "Musical of Western" trekt, heb je de keuze om een Musical óf een Western te maken. Of een muzikale western (of zelfs een western musical!)
Je film moet passen binnen het getrokken genre—en ruilen met andere teams is niet toegestaan! Je mag eventueel genres combineren (b.v een stille humoristische holiday film).
2013 Wild Card Genres
This year the wild cards are, well, WILD! We've added some tough ones: Martial Arts and Operetta! We've also added some crowd pleasers: Zombie and B Movie. We are happy to introduce our new test genre - Found Footage! You're going to have a good time with these.

Film de Femme
Nog nooit gehoord van een Film de Femme? Dat is omdat wij het bedacht hebben! Dit genre is specifiek ontworpen binnen het 48 uur film project om sterke vrouwelijke karakters aan te moedigen in 48HFP films. Een Film de Femme is een film waar één of meer sterke vrouwelijke karakters in voorkomen. Romantische komedies ("chick flicks") vallen in dit genre, maar er is zeker meer.
Wat is een sterk vrouwelijke karakter? Denk aan Ellen Page in , Salma Hayek in , Reese Witherspoon in , or Julia Roberts in . Slim en gecompliceerd. Probeer te voorkomen dat je een vrouw een mannelijk karakter laat naspelen. In tegenstelling tot de algemene mening, zijn sterke vrouwelijke karakters niet verplicht iemand te doden!
Found Footage
Found footage is a genre of filmmaking in which part of a film is presented as discovered film or video recordings, sometimes left behind by missing or dead protagonists.
Often, the events on screen are seen through the camera of one of the characters involved. But there are many kinds of "found" footage including security and nanny-cams.
Popular examples are The Blair Witch Project (1999), Paranormal Activity (2007) and Cloverfield (2008). All footage, although appearing to be found, must be shot within the 48 Hour Film period. The film does not have to be a horror film.
Operetta
All dialogue must be sung.
