The weekend? June 28 - 30, 2019

The challenge? To make a film in only 48 hours!

Filmmakers from all over the Houston, TX area will compete to see who can make the best short film in only 48 hours. The winning film will go up against films from around the world at Filmapalooza 2020 for a chance at the grand prize and an opportunity to screen at the Cannes Film Festival 2020 Short Film Corner.

If you have fun at this event, you'll want to come back again next month. The Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP) holds their filmmaking salons on the last Tuesday of each month where they cover some topic related to filmmaker or of interest to the local filmmaking community. This is a great resource if you want to learn more about the filmmaking experience or network with your artistic community!!

Like the venue?  Be sure to come back and check out an improv show there...  Shows run weekly: Thursdays (8pm), Friday (8pm/9:30pm) and Saturday (8pm/9:30pm).  Each and every performance is unscripted and unique - never to be seen again.

Kickoff Event

Representatives from each team will gather to draw their genre and learn this year's prop, character & line dialogue.  

- Please limit yourself to only one representative per team.

- The representative may be any member of the team - it does not have to be the team leader.

- The representative must bring the Team Leader's Agreement to kickoff. The agreement must be signed by the team leader.

- Everyone will be released at 7:00pm to begin working on their films.

The Houston 48 Hour Film Project challenged teams of filmmakers to create a short film from scratch in just a single weekend.  At the start of the weekend, each team drew a genre out of hat and was assigned a character, prop and line of dialogue to include - the rest was up to them.  Join as we celebrate their efforts in the Premiere Screening of this year's entries.
