Feature Script Project 2020 presented by The 48 Hour Film Project

The 48HFP is seeking to work with veteran 48HFP filmmakers and writers to develop a script for production.

For years the 48 hour filmmakers have proven their skill and creativity at filmmaking. We are seeking to work with our talented filmmakers to go to the next level... create a feature film.

As with any film, it all starts with the script. We are excited to announce the 48HFP Feature Script Project. The goal is to find a script (or scripts) that can be successfully turned into a feature film.

Feature Script Project

Calling all Writers!

The 48HFP Feature Script Project is open to anyone who has worked on an official 48 hour film - whether you have a completed script or simply a great idea. Part of the evaluation will be on your writing ability with the ultimate goal to have a completed script by the end of the summer.

The 48HFP is partnering with NOBS, an award winning Dutch production company, to launch the 48HFP Feature Script Project. We will evaluate the winning script (and the other finalists} to see if they are suitable for production.

Note: Writers retain full ownership rights to their scripts.

How It Works

Phase 1: The Pitch Pitch/Synopsis Due: Jun 19, 2020

It all starts with the pitch. We are seeking a synopsis of your film idea (1 - 3 pages). A good synopsis is a short summary of your screenplay.

It includes your main characters and what they go through during the story, focusing on conflict and resolution.

In addition to the synopsis, you must submit a sample of the script (5 - 10 pages). It can be any part of the script, but something that will give the judges a good sense of your writing.

Writing Guidelines

Phase 2: The Script Finalists Announced: Aug 1, 2020

Our judges will rate the submissions on the criteria below and select 3 - 5 finalists. The finalists will be tasked with completing a feature length script of 80 - 100 pages.

Over the course of three months, 48HFP producing partners and industry experts will provide feedback and guidance in developing the script.

Each of the finalists who submits a completed screenplay will receive a share of the prize pool - $1500 USD this year.

Judging Criteria

Phase 3: The Review Full Length Scripts Due: Nov 10, 2020

Our judges will review the completed screenplay to select a winner based on the same criteria.

The script will receive a partial table read at Filmapalooza. The script will be shared with successful feature film producers, with the goal being to get the script turned into a feature.

The winner will receive two free passes to Filmapalooza 2021 for presentation of Best Feature Script Award.
