The weekend? July 10 - 12, 2020

The challenge? To make a film in only 48 hours!

Filmmakers from all over the Richmond, VA area will compete to see who can make the best short film in only 48 hours. The winning film will go up against films from around the world at Filmapalooza 2021 for a chance at the grand prize and an opportunity to screen at the Cannes Film Festival 2021 Short Film Corner.

  • Early Bird: $148 USD/team ends Mon, Jun 15
  • Regular: $168 USD/team ends Tue, Jun 30
  • Late: $188 USD/team ends Fri, Jul 10

Kickoff Event

Fri, Jul 10, 2020 @ 6:00pm - 7:00pm

Registered filmmakers... this is where you come to get your marching orders--the required character, prop, line of dialogue and genre--for filmmaking weekend! It's more fun when the entire team attends, but only one is required to check in, submit the Team Leader Agreement, draw the team's genre and pick up paperwork.

by 7:30pm to be on-time

You made a movie in 48 hours! Drop off your film between 6-7:30 p.m. to be on time and qualify for all awards. If you're late, we'll still take your film and screen it, but it will only qualify for Audience Choice.

Filmmakers from the Richmond and beyond area raced to make a film in just 48 hours, and you can see the best of them in the Best of Richmond Screenings!

The 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP) is the world's largest timed film competition, and it has returned to Richmond as a part of the 2020 international tour. One film will be chosen by a panel of film professionals as the "Best 48HFP Film of Richmond" and that film will move on to screen at Filmapalooza, and even get a shot at a screening in next year's Cannes Film Festival! A runner-up and awards in numerous other categories will also be awarded immediately after the screenings.
