The challenge? To make a horror film in only 48 hours!

Do you like to be scared? Do you love Hitchcock? Bring on the fake blood and the rumbling undercurrent sound effect and get ready for a weekend you won't forget.

Filmmakers from all over the Richmond, VA area will compete to see who can make the best horror short film in only 48 hours. The winning film will screen at Filmapalooza 2023.

Registration Fees

The Richmond 48 Hour Horror Film Project weekend begins here! Teams must have at least one member of their team attend this event in order to participate, but we encourage the whole team!
Here is where teams will receive the required character, prop, line of dialogue and draw their sub-genre--all of the elements required for their film.

The 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP) is the world's largest timed film competition, and it has returned to Richmond as a part of the 2022 international tour.
Filmmakers from the Richmond area will race to make a HORROR film in just 48 hours on the weekend of October 21-23, and you can see them in their dazzling World Premiere Screenings! Each screening will include a Q&A with the filmmakers immediately following the films and a chance for YOU to select an Audience Choice Award for that screening. Voting will be via QR code, so you must have a mobile device to vote!
One film will be chosen by a panel of film professionals as the "Best 48 Hour Horror Film of Richmond" and that film will move on to screen at Filmapalooza in Los Angeles, CA in March 2023, and even get a shot at a screening in next year's Cannes Film Festival! A runner-up and awards in numerous other categories will also be awarded.
Tickets will be available for purchase online in advance through October 28 for $10 each, or at the door for $15, cash only.
