Filmapalooza judge Nathalie Boltt appearing as "Penelope Blossom" in the CW's Riverdale

Fans of the CW's Riverdale might be frightened at first when they hear the name "Penelope Blossom," but they'll be happy to know that in real life, actress Nathalie Boltt is sweet as pie, and nothing like the serial killer she portrays in the popular television show. Which is good for us, and GREAT for our filmmakers as they benefit from her keen eye and knowledge of the film world without having to go through the danger of Penelope's poisonous ways.

Nathalie is headlining our panel of international judges for this year's Filmapalooza in Orlando, where the top 48HFP films from around the world will be screened. She, along with the other members of our jury panel, will be selecting the top films from our 2018 tour. All of those global award winning films will be announced at Filmapalooza in just a few weeks.

Nathalie is no stranger to the 48HFP--she sat on the judge's panel in 2015 for our Cleveland 48FP. So we were excited to be able to bring her back as a judge at the international level.

Riverdale fans may not know that Nathalie is also not only an actress, but a writer and director as well. Her short films, web series and music video have garnered a multitude of awards and resulted in Sony and Warner Brothers supporting her director’s attachments – on Deadly Class (to Lee T. Krieger) and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (to Maggie Kylie). Boltt’s screenwriting feature project, Holy Days, which she will also direct, was selected for development by the New Zealand Film Commission with Emma Slade (The Changeover, Come To Daddy) producing and Studio Canal distributing, after an international panel gave her rave reviews at Melbourne Film Festival’s Talent Express intensive. Boltt was also selected for the Director’s Guild of New Zealand’s Film Making Incubator program and received SEED funding from the NZ Writers Guild.

As an international writer, Nathalie penned over 400 episodes of the youth show Craz-E (eTV, South Africa), researched and wrote Desert Lake Venture for National Geographic and contributed episodes to award-winning series: Hard Copy (SABC3); Coconuts (Mnet); Font (SABC3) and Emu (BBC).

In addition to Riverdale, fans can catch Nathalie on the CBS comedy Happy Together as the crazy Aussie mum, as Laura Kassman on Origin, the flagship show for YouTube Red, or on Netflix with Ethan Hawke on 24 Hours To Live.

Joining Nathalie on our panel of international judges will be Carlos Barbosa (Colombia), a Production Designer with a Master of Architecture degree from Tulane University and credits as production designer for The Inhumans, Godless, Aquarius, Magic City, season eight and the pilot of 24 for which he was nominated for an Emmy; Derk van den Berg (Netherlands), an award winning producer, director and writer best known for his feature film, The Iceland Gang, and his new TV series, KOOS (and for being a Four Points Film Project champion); Keshni Rajoo, (South Africa), a Producer, Technical director, Executive Producer, and Series Producer (show runner), who is currently working as Director of Content and Business Development at Red Pepper Pictures, a premier production house in South Africa; and Peter Vickers, (England), an English acting and script-writing coach, based in Paris, studied at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art under Doreen Cannon (HB Studio, New York), and Shakespeare under William Gaskill (Royal Court Theatre).
