Digital Dropoff 2022 Upload Process

2022 48 Hour Film Project

BEFORE THE COMPETITION WEEKEND

Make sure you have access to your team on Cinema48 and have uploaded your Teamleader Agreement:

  1. Go to our uploading website: Cinema48.com.
  2. If you don't have one already, create an account by clicking on “Register” in the top right corner and use the same email address you used to register your team on 48hourfilm.com.
  3. You will be asked to verify your email address, but if you wait a couple of seconds and refresh the browser your email should be verified automatically as the system recognizes existing registrations from 48hourfilm.com
  4. Once you are logged in, you go to the Film Manager page. If the system recognized your Email Address from your 48hourfilm.com registration, a box should be there `Still in progress`. On the right of that box you can select the film and the whole box should turn green.
  5. Click on the blue (first step) Upload Paperwork button. This will allow you to upload your Team Leader agreement. This document must be submitted Before Kickoff
  6. You may submit pdf’s, scans, jpegs—anything with a clear actual or electronic signature.

WRAPUP - DURING COMPETITION WEEKEND

Focus on creating your film first!
But as soon as you know the final title and length of your film you can start your wrapup process. This process will take some time so we highly recommend that you start your wrapup process when you finish editing and thus know the final length of your film. The wrapup process works like this:

  1. Make sure you are logged in into Cinema48.com and go back to the Film Manager page and select your film.
  2. Click on the blue 'Do the Wrapup' button.
  3. Follow the instructions on the page and verify on each step that you entered it correctly, especially the film title.
  4. After you're done with the wrapup process, download the receipt. And continue to the In Person Dropoff or the Digital Dropoff.

OPTION 1 - IN PERSON DROPOFF

If the project you're participating in has an in-person dropoff do the following:

  1. Print the wrapup receipt that you downloaded in the previous step.
  2. Finish and render your film and double check that your film file plays back (Sometimes your application can still be rendering some finishing touches in the background, even though it's telling your it has finished).
  3. Copy the file to the media (usually USB thumb drive) and backup media. Make sure you label your media with your teamname and put it with the printout of your wrapup receipt.
  4. Drive to the dropoff location provided by your City Producer and drop your film off.
  5. Make sure you finish uploading the rest of the paperwork before midnight on the dropoff day.
  6. Make sure you remain available by phone, the City Producer may have additional questions for you.
  7. Celebrate with your team: you have made a film in 48 hours.

OPTION 2 - DIGITAL DROPOFF

NOTE: Safari can be unstable during upload. We recommend a different browser like Firefox or Chrome.
If the project you're participating in has a digital dropoff do the following:
  1. Finish and render your film and double check that your film file plays back (Sometimes your application can still be rendering some finishing touches in the background, even though it's telling your it has finished).
  2. On Cinema48.com go (back) to the Film Manager page (either click on link on page or go to drop down in top right corner to find Film Manager). And make sure your current film is selected
  3. If you have done the wrapup correctly, a blue Upload Your Film button will be there. Click on that button.
  4. Film Upload
    • Click on “Select File” or drag the file into the dropzone—your file should be a maximum size of 2GB.
    • The system will immediately generate a unique Checksum code with a time stamp. This is important—see below.
    • The system will automatically begin your file upload.
    • When the file upload is complete, you should see a Green Success Bar
  5. Make sure you finish uploading the rest of the paperwork before midnight on the dropoff day.
  6. Make sure you remain available by phone, the City Producer may have additional questions for you.
  7. Celebrate with your team: you have made a film in 48 hours.

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

Having trouble? Try this:

  1. Not seeing your team appear in the film manager?
Be sure that the email you used to create your Cinema48.com account is the same one that you used to register your team. Contact your City Producer if you are unsure.
  2. You must do the wrapup on the website BEFORE you upload your film at Cinema48.com.
  3. Log out of Cinema48.com — then log back in.

Don’t Forget Your Paperwork
Click on the Upload Paperwork link to upload all of your required documents.

NOTE: Documents must be submitted on Sunday, but may be submitted after the 7:30 pm deadline

QUESTIONS

Is My Film On-Time? (or What is Checksum?)
To provide you with as stress-free process as possible, we have added an extra feature to the file upload system.
  1. As soon as you click on Upload File, here’s what happens
  2. The system generates a Checksum code and a time stamp
  3. The Checksum code is unique to your file
  4. You will see the Checksum code and time stamp — if the stamp is before the deadline, your file is on-time
  5. The system will automatically begin uploading your film
  6. Once the upload is complete, the system will compare the original Checksum with the one generated afterwards to verify it is the same file.
Why this process?
Generating a Checksum code happens quickly. You should plan on it taking 8-10 minutes, but it usually takes only a minute or two—and far quicker than uploading a film.
What happens if the upload takes a long time?
Don’t panic! We have your Checksum as proof.
What happens if my system crashes during upload?
Don’t panic! Simply re-upload the exact same file. As long as the file is the same, then the Checksum for the file you submitted and the Checksum that the upload generates will match.
My film is late, what to do with my film?
Both for In-person dropoffs and digital dropoffs: even though you didn't finish on time we still want to see and screen your film. Also your film may still be eligible for an audience award. So after the dropoff deadline, there will always be the option to upload your film (you do need to do the wrapup first)
If you run into any trouble with the upload, contact your city producer.
