Genre Drawings How It Works

Genre Requirement 48 Hour Film Project

At the kickoff event each team draws a genre from a hat.

Your film must be true to the genre you have selected—and no trading with other teams!

At the end of the Kickoff Event, filmmakers will be given the option to trade their genre for a random Wild Card genre - these additional genres will be randomly assigned to each city.

But be careful.. once you give up your genre, you can't get it back - even if you don't like your Wild Card option!

Got it all? Well, be warned... We switch up the options each year - just to keep you on your toes!!
