Hoe het werkt: samenvatting

What if you had just one weekend to make a film—start to finish?

The 48 Hour Film Project is a global filmmaking challenge where teams write, shoot, and edit a short film in only 48 hours. No time to overthink. Just pure creativity, collaboration, and a race against the clock.

Here’s how your weekend unfolds:

FRIDAY – Kickoff & Writing

Your team gets your genre, plus a character, prop, and line of dialogue that must be included in your film. Then it’s straight into brainstorming, writing, and prepping for your shoot.

SATURDAY – Filming

Lights, camera, action. You shoot your film while your editor can already start assembling footage. It’s a full day of creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and making it happen.

SUNDAY – Editing & Delivery

Everything comes together. Editing, sound, music, finishing touches—and then the final sprint to upload your film before the deadline to the Dashboard online.

Next... you see it on the big screen.

Your film premieres in a real cinema with an audience. One to two weeks after Drop Off, you, your friends, family, and fellow filmmakers watch what you created in just one weekend. Awards are given, and the winner of Best Film moves on to Filmapalooza, our annual international film festival.

It’s intense. It’s unpredictable. It’s one of the most fun things you’ll ever do as a filmmaker.
