Cleveland Filmmakers Take to the Streets

This weekend 500 filmmakers from Cleveland are making films in the 48 Hour Film Project! All of completed films will screen on the dates below.

There are still a few slots available in the Cleveland 48HFP.

Here are some important notes for 48HFP filmmakers:

  • Elements: The required elements for Cleveland will be listed to the right.
  • Media: You must submit your film on one of the media listed to the right.
  • Documents: You must submit releases for all team members, all music, all locations, and any other copyrighted material, as well as a team leader's agreement, a roster, and a certification statement. These forms can be downloaded from on our production documents page.
  • Rules/FAQ: You should make sure that your film complies with our rules. If you have questions about the rules, the best place to go is our faq.
  • 48HFP Hotline: If you have a question during the filmmaking weekend, call the 48HFP Hotline. The number is on the Kickoff Info Sheet that your team representative was given at the kickoff. If you email us, you will probably not receive an answer in time, so please call.
  • Dropoff: The location to drop off your film is listed below.
  • Coda: Be safe! Make great films! Good luck!

Cleveland 48HFP Events

New Amsterdam Vodka 48HFP Invitational

Notes  Cleveland is one of 25 cities around the U.S. selected to participate in this special 48 hour filmmaking invitational sponsored by New Amsterdam Vodka. The top five filmmaking teams from this summer's 48HFP (as determined by our panel of judges) will be invited to participate in this competition. Teams will have 48 hours to create their short film about Cleveland and show the world "This is my town" while featuring New Amsterdam Vodka products in the film. These five films will be screened at the "Best Of" screening on August 7th at the Capitol Theatre along with the other top 48HFP films--participants in the NAV Invitational have a shot at winning $1000 Best NAV Film in Cleveland or the $5000 grand prize!

Notes  Jakes Bar is located on the first floor of the Marriott near the front entrance. Come help the filmmakers kick off a great weekend of 48HFP fun! The Kickoff is open to anyone, whether you're competing or just supporting the teams.

We are also collecting canned goods and nonperishable food items at the Kickoff as well as at our Premier Screenings. These items will all go to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank to benefit our local communities. This is completely optional, but know that if you'd like to donate you'll be helping a great cause!

Place  Jake's Bar at the Cleveland Marriot Hotel , 127 Public Square Cleveland, OH 44114
Notes  Jakes Bar is located on the first floor of the Marriott near the front entrance.
You must be INSIDE the hotel at the entrance to Jake's in order to be counted as an on-time film. Come cheer on the filmmakers as they race to turn in their completed films!

Premiere Screenings

Date  July 22nd & 23rd
Time  7:00pm and 9:30pm each night
Place  Tower City Cinemas, 230 Huron Rd., Cleveland OH 44113
Tickets  $10 or $12 (purchase them here)
Notes  Check out the world premier screenings of the 2014 Cleveland 48 Hour Film Project. Support the filmmakers by attending the films as they're shown in all of their glory up on the big screen at Tower City Cinemas. Purchase tickets in advance because these screenings will sell out! There are different films in each screening so make sure you review the list so you can support your favorite team. Films are not rated and may contain language or mature content.

Pre and Post Screening mingle at Lincoln Tap House. Eat, drink and hang out with filmmakers from the 2014 Cleveland 48 Hour Film Project before and after their films are shown on the big screen!

230 Prospect Avenue

New VIP Seating this year! In addition to the regular ticket price we're also offering special VIP Early Seating. For just a couple of extra dollars you can enter the theatre 10 minutes before it's open to the general public so you can have your pick of the best seats in the house! All seating is general admission, there are a limited number of VIP seats available for each screening.

Best Of Screening

Notes  This special screening will feature all of the top award-nominated films from the 2014 Cleveland 48 Hour Film Project. We're excited to be in the Capitol Theatre for the first time ever.
List of films screening will be posted the week of the screening. Tickets will go on sale at that time as well. All info on films and purchasing tickets will be available on this page at that time.

Wrap Party

Date  Thursday, August 7
Time  9:00pm - midnight (starts immediately after Best Of screening)
Place  Cleveland Marriott Hotel, 127 Public Square Cleveland, OH 44114
Notes  Join us for a very special Awards Ceremony & Wrap Party for the 2014 48 Hour Film Project. The event will begin immediately following the Best Of screening at the Capitol Theatre--the second floor atrium of the Marriott, which is just a short drive from the Capitol. There will be appetizers, a cash bar, a DJ, and of course the announcement of all the award winning films from this year's 48HFP!
Information on tickets for the party will be available on this page 4-6 weeks prior to the event.

Required Media

For the Cleveland 48HFP, your film must be submitted on one of the following media:

  • (preferred) a self-contained Quicktime file
    - codecs for HD: preferred format is h.264 blu-ray .m4v/.wav with data bitrate at least 11Mbps (target bitrate) or 13.33Mbps (maximum bitrate), DVCProHD, HDV, or any native codec from Final Cut Pro, Premiere, or iMovie. NOTE: When copying it to flash drive make sure to include both the mv4 and wav files.
    - codecs for SD: codecs for SD: DV-NTSC, H.264 with a data rate of at least 16Mbps, or any native codec from Final Cut Pro, Premiere, or iMovie.
    - submission formats: USB flash drive or data DVD/Blu-Ray
    - Audio should be stereo sound only (no surround sound)
    - Keep all text & images within the safe zone and not too close to the edge of your frame to ensure that words are not cut off
    - Films will be screened in 1080p and at 16x9 general aspect ratio. Films turned in that are in a lower quality may be letterboxed (black lines on top, bottom, and/or sides of the film) to preserve the quality of the film.
    - PLEASE DO NOT TURN IN PLAYABLE DVDS OR BLU-RAY DISCS, ONLY DATA DISCS WITH THE QUICKTIME FILE AS PER THE SPECIFICATIONS ABOVE. Converting films from a playable DVD or playable Blu-Ray format could drastically alter the quality of your film during the screening.
