Filmmakers from all over the Richmond, VA area will compete to see who can make the best short film in only 48 hours.

Write, shoot, and edit a short film over the weekend and see it PREMIERE on the BIG SCREEN!

All Welcome!  First-timer to Hobbyists to Amateurs to Professionals!

Take your filmmaking to the NEXT LEVEL!

Wherever you are currently in your filmmaking journey, the 48 Hour Film Project is a valuable next step!  

     •. Make your FIRST film... the first of many!

     •. Create a film (or another film!) for your reel

     •  Practice new techniques -- in a low-risk setting

     •. Find new filmmaking partners to work with, beginning on a (very!) short-term basis

     •  Create work to help show off your skills to find that next job!


The winning film will go up against films from around the world at Filmapalooza 2024 for a chance at the grand prize and an opportunity to screen at the Cannes Film Festival 2024 Short Film Corner!

Always wanted to do a 48 Hour Film Project, but never felt confident enough? Or maybe you have done a 48, but are looking for ways to improve from those who have been successful at it?
Then come to the How to 48 workshop on Thursday, May 18 at 6 p.m. at Libbie Mill Library and learn tried and true tips and techniques from those who know what it takes to achieve results!
Panelists include RVA 48HFP City Producer Lisa Giles and Will Sidaros from The Underdog Team, director of "Always and Forever," Audience Choice winner of the 2023 Richmond 48 Hour Horror Film Project.

RVA 48HFP Audition

ACTORS: Want to be in a 48 Hour Film Project film? This is your chance to audition IN PERSON, be seen and interact with the filmmakers who are looking for talent. DO NOT register if you aren't available filmmaking weekend, July 14-16. Individual directors interested in you will let you know your exact shoot schedule.
FILMMAKERS: Looking for talent? This is your chance to see the talent in our community and snag actors for your film! You MUST be registered for the 48 to attend audition. Project registration opens May 9.
Audition registration for actors AND filmmakers opens June 1.

Kickoff Event

The Richmond 48 Hour Film Project filmmaking weekend begins here! Teams must have at least one member of their team attend this event in order to participate, but we encourage the whole team!
Here is where teams will receive the required character, prop, line of dialogue and draw their genre--all of the elements required for their film.
