The Directing & Casting Lab is a dynamic, in-person half-day workshop that gives directors, actors, and filmmakers professional tools for casting and performance direction. Participants learn a structured approach to identifying great actors and quickly elevating performance on set—without needing to step into the actor’s internal process. The workshop is fast-paced, interactive, and built around live, unrehearsed scene work.
Whether you're looking to cast the right talent, stand out in auditions, or better understand what makes performances work, this session offers real-world insight into the collaborative art of bringing characters to life under production pressure.
What You’ll Learn
Three essential qualities an actor must have to land the role
How to quickly test for those qualities during casting
Three practical directing techniques that consistently improve performance
How to self-direct effectively when direction is vague or absent
Schedule
Foundational Lecture - Introduces three must-have actor qualities—plus two toolkits: one for recognizing these traits during casting, and another for directing performances efficiently and effectively. This lecture sets the foundation for everything that follows.
Live Casting Demonstration - An unrehearsed casting session with audience volunteers shows how the casting tools work in practice. (Note: Not all attendees will be brought on stage. Actors who wish to be considered must bring a prepared monologue.)
Live Directing Demonstration - In this segment, selected volunteers participate in unrehearsed scene work that highlights how clear, actionable direction can quickly yield strong, nuanced performances. It also illustrates the distinction between directing and acting coaching—equipping directors to guide outcomes without needing to engage each actor’s internal method.
Who Should Attend
Directors wanting to get the performances they envision without overstepping the actor’s process
Actors who want to improve their audition results, self-direct under vague direction, and understand how directors think
Producers aiming to reduce performance-related risk and support stronger director-actor collaboration
Writers eager to see their work brought to life and learn more about casting and directing

Arts Accelerator is proud to present the "Writer's Room" Story Development Lab!
The Arts Accelerator Writers Room is an interactive writing experience modeled after a professional television writers' room, where writers share their works in progress, exchange feedback, and develop their ideas.
Over time, you’ll learn how to quickly identify and solve creative story problems so you can improve existing scripts, and produce consistent, professional quality output in any narrative format. This includes novels, feature films, TV shows, journalism, documentaries, and more.
On the second Sunday of every month, writers' room attendees will meet around a table to:
Read excerpts aloud from your works in progress (up to ten minutes in length)
Receive and share productive, structured, and actionable feedback based on the Screenwriting Masterclass tools. (It’s OK if you haven’t taken the Masterclass)
Use your time to brainstorm, developing stories from scratch with group feedback
Develop and practice delivering your loglines, pitches, or outlines
You’ll also get live, one-on-one guidance and feedback.
Bonus Benefits of Attending
If you take full advantage of the Writers Room, over time, you’ll learn how to quickly identify and solve creative story problems, improve existing scripts, and produce consistent, professional quality output in any narrative format. This includes novels, feature films, TV shows, journalism, documentaries, and more.
If you have an idea you’ve always wanted to bring to life, if you’ve pitched and not gotten developed, or gotten stuck on a project, the Arts Accelerator Writers Room will help you identify what you might be missing and how to find your voice and move forward.
And in true Arts Accelerator fashion, you’ll walk away with a valuable professional artifact that advances your artistic goals. If you’re looking for an ongoing group of like-minded creative writers to help you on your journey, the Writers Room is for you.

The Format
We are excited to see you at our upcoming reading event! To ensure everyone gets the most out of the session, here is how the evening works:
The Format: We aim for a rhythm of 10 minutes of reading followed by 10 minutes of feedback. While we generally try to stay on schedule, we prioritize the learning process. If a critique sparks a valuable back-and-forth discussion we allow the conversation to breathe. We believe deeply in the benefit of seeing that creative problem-solving happen in real-time.
Sign-Up Policy: Reading slots are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are hoping to read, please arrive early to get your name on the list.
Shared Vocabulary: To ensure our feedback is precise and actionable, we ask that all participants review our Glossary of Writing Terms before the event. Being on the same page with our terminology helps us address specific aspects of the work more effectively. Once you register to attend you will receive the link to the glossary of terms in your confirmation email. Please be sure to review this document BEFORE the class.
The Benefit: Due to the popularity and limited duration of the event, not everyone will get a reading slot, as there simply won't be time. However, the critique process is valuable for everyone in the room. Even if you are not reading, listening to how creative work is analyzed is one of the best ways to refine your own editorial eye.

About the Screenwriting Masterclass
Franco, the moderator for the Writer’s Room, is the instructor of the Arts Accelerator’s Screenwriting Masterclass, a weekend-long screenwriting intensive and one of the highest-rated workshops in South Florida. Multiple scripts written during the masterclass have been screened at competitive film festivals.
Reviews from the Screenwriting Masterclass:
"I want my money back for every other workshop I've taken!” - Juliet R.
"I learned more in one weekend than in my four-year playwriting degree!" - Shawn D.
"Forget about any other workshop. Want to become a great writer? This workshop will help you get there". - Rafael V.
The Screenwriting Masterclass is only one weekend. Attendees asked for a longer format workshop where they could continue to develop their dramatic writing projects using the Masterclass tools. Many even attended the Masterclass multiple times, so we listened, and the Writers Room was born.
